Chettinad Chennai....

Wow!! I just don't seem to fit in here.... its a multitude of small things.... maybe its the colour of my skin, or the way I dress, or the way I talk, or the way I tie my hair, etc etc etc. Anyway, my first impression of Chennai has been pretty good, though a tad boring. Its so conservative and rigid here. The people dress in a particular way, sit in a particular way, walk in a particular way. The men wear shirts and lungis, which appears kind of strange to an outsider at first. The lungi isn't worn as it would be normally. It is folded up and the fold is tucked at the waist so that the lungi forms a kind of min-skirt, revealing the legs and some of the thighs as well. I found it really funny initially to see grown-up men dressed in a mini-skirtish-garment, but now its no more a novelty, seeing that everyone dresses in the same way here. I think people here have a special fascination with white. Its white all the way - shirts, lungis, and garments (thank God the pants aren't white! How Govinda-ish would that be?)
