Now and then
We were hopeful once, strong-willed, determined. We thought
we’d change the world, live out our lives the way we wanted, get what we
wanted.
We feared no one.
We hated no one.
That innocence is dead.
The innocence of youth is gone.
Where once we loved flowers, they are now just beautiful
vessels of sad memories.
Where once we sat and watched for hours a line of crabs crawl
along the rocks by the sea, we are now cynical and angry at everything.
Where once we felt the world was ours, we can only sadly
chuckle.
Where once we thought happiness, forever, was for us, it was
taken away.
Where once we loved freely, fully and openly, we’re hesitant
and scared.
Where once we feared nothing, we’re now easily bended.
Where once we thought we would have it all, only a shell
remains.
