A Baby Girl.....

Today I chanced upon a rather cruel piece of news on television. That was when I was going to watch Kylie Kwong: Hong Kong Secrets on Discovery Travel & Living. I switched over to the news channels to look at the news for the day, even though I had read the newspapers (both of them today!) On NDTV 24X7, I saw this rather strange piece of news. It showed that there was a fight in a hospital in Ujaain over a baby which was born a day ago. And another baby (a girl) was left unclaimed, even though one of the mothers had given birth to her. Such a heartless piece of luck (or rather unluck!) Both the mothers were claiming that they had delivered the baby boy, even though it is evident that one of them had given birth to the poor little girl. But both of them refused total responsibility, just because the child was a girl. Shocking, appalling, vicious and utterly tragic! While the boy is being fought over by two sets of parents who claim him as their own, the hapless baby girl is left uncared for, and totally unlooked at. Whatever might be the outcome of this case, whoever she might be handed over to, it is very evident what kind of life the poor girl is going to live, for no apparent fault of hers. Unwanted, left to fend for herself, abused and tortured for having being born a girl, she will forever lament why she was not made a victim of female infanticide the minute she was born. Such is the case in this society of ours.
